Letter: Horrible stain

Georgia. Another school killing, two innocent kids starting school, and two teachers there to teach students. Far too many heartbreaks, and lost innocent lives. It is a horrible stain on America that we can’t end this violence.
Yes, one ingredient it is mental illness. Don’t other countries also have mental illness? Do they allow military-style weapons to be so readily available?
I grew up in Alaska, we had guns. I was taught how to use one responsibly. We had moose and caribou in the freezer that my Dad hunted for our meat. It never occurred to me or other students to use a weapon on kids in schools.
Seems the other ingredient is money. The National Rifle Association makes money, lots of money. Gun dealers make lots of money. The politicians who accept NRA money are beholden to the NRA, and their business model. Are the politicians you are voting for beholden to the NRA? What is a child’s life worth?
When the Second Amendment was written it was meant for self-defense, not mass killing. Using an AR-15 for hunting does not leave much meat left for your freezer.
C’mon people, we can’t accept this as normal! Our country is better than this.
