In One Ear: Witchy wardrobe

OK, it’s nowhere near Halloween season, but it never hurts to think ahead. Especially when it comes to Astoria’s beloved October witches, all dressed up in their best witchy gear, who pop up every year seemingly flying smack into the downtown light poles.

This year, the Astoria Downtown Historic District Association is already preparing for the witches’ appearance, and hopes you will delve into the depths of your closets to help.

“Every year we take our flying ladies out of the broom closet and spruce up their outfits for another year in the downtown,” the ADHDA announced recently. “We are in need of donated pants and skirts this year, so if you have any spare clothing items …”

And then, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Aug. 17, there is the all-important Witch Dressing at the Astoria Armory.

“We are assembling witches on their brooms and updating their wardrobes,” the announcement continued. “We have staple guns and equipment for use. Come ready to pick out wigs, hats, gloves, etc. to help the witches look their best for October …”

So if you want to help dress the witches, or have some witchy attire to donate, email events@astoriadowntown.com. (Photo: Astoria Downtown Historic District Association)
