Bob Scull, the owner of the popular Silver Salmon Grille on Commercial, will take on Carruthers. He said he is working to keep the two as separate entities.
Jim Defeo, of Astoria Coffeehouse & Bistro and Cargo, opened Carruthers at Commercial and 12th Street across from the Liberty Theatre in 2016. The restaurant has been closed for the past several weeks.
Defeo could not be reached for comment.

“We’re so excited to get an opportunity to reopen Carruthers restaurant. Carruthers’ unique and contemporary environment is something that we’re excited to continue for the Astoria community,” Scull said. “The authentic stylings and incredible cocktail menu that Carruthers has always been known for is going to continue to be the premier feature that has made it one of Astoria’s best dinner houses.”
Scull hopes to open Carruthers to the public in August and is keen on keeping the atmosphere the same.
