When the world feels turbulent, it’s more important than ever to focus on our local community. The Clatsop County Fair offers a unique opportunity to step back, connect with our neighbors, and celebrate the hard work and talents that make our community special.

The fair is not just about kids, animals and entertainment; it’s about building connections and creating a sense of belonging. Through community competitions, residents (of any age and skill level) can showcase their skills in various categories such as art, baking and horticulture. Participation can foster connection and a healthy community.

Imagine supporting your uncle at the chili cookoff by voting for his entry to win the people’s choice award. Or discovering that your mail person loves to make miniature figurines inspired by movies made locally, and then asking them more about it the next time they deliver a package.

You might get the scoop from your neighbor’s kid on why they switched from raising sheep to rabbits this year. Or perhaps you’ll see a co-worker at the talent show, and finally understand their references to spinning plates. Even seeing a familiar face in a different light — like the grumpy customer you encounter, now viewed through the adoring eyes of their grandchild’s scrapbook of shared adventures — can deepen our sense of connection.
