Westport

June 3, 1947 — April 9, 2024

Ernest E. Henton III passed away peacefully at his home in Westport, surrounded by his family.

Ernie was born in Oakland, California, on June 3, 1947, to Ernest E. Henton II and Mildred Irene (Archer) Henton. Ernie spent his boyhood years growing up in Exeter, California. He spent many happy summers in Astoria, visiting his Aunt Ruthie and Uncle Don.

He graduated from Exeter Union High School in 1965, and shortly thereafter joined the U.S. Navy. He received his honorable discharge, and continued his education at the College of the Sequoias in Visalia, California, and then transferred to California State University, Chico, where he received his bachelor’s degree.

He was employed in management, and worked for over 30 years at Fashion Optical Displays in Paradise, California. Upon retirement he moved to Westport, and spent the rest of his days enjoying the serenity of his home on the Columbia River.

He enjoyed numerous hobbies, including model railroading, music, coin and stamp collecting and travel. He loved classic cars, and belonged to the Americana Corvette Club in Chico, and the Lower Columbia Classics Car Club in Astoria, where he encountered lifelong friendships and a very special kind of family.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; their two daughters, Lisa Lindquist, and her husband, Kevin, of Chico, and Veronica Gibbons; grandchildren, Dominic and Jessica, of Redding, California; and his sister, Liz (Henton) Beshwate, and brother-in-law, Duane Beshwate, of Exeter.

There will be no service, as a private living celebration of life occurred prior to his passing.

Arrangements have been made with Hughes-Ransom Mortuary & Crematory in Astoria.
