A long layoff didn’t slow down the Seaside High School boys golf team as they cruised to a 333-372 victory against Tillamook on Tuesday morning. The Seaside Seagulls were one putt short of having all five scorers in the 80s, and Seaside also saw their fourth different player lead the team in scoring.

Diego Sanchez led the way with a career-low score of 81. He was joined in the top three by Alex Arden (82) and Madden Wunderlich (84).

Sophomore Xanh Quang placed fourth with a career-low of 86. Logan Norman finished with a 90, and placed fifth for the Seagulls.

“We have now played five events and have had four different kids lead the team in scoring,” Seaside head coach Jim Poetsch said in a statement on Tuesday. “The team is really well-balanced and any of the five could shoot the low score for the day. … Hopefully, we will continue to improve as we approach the postseason. ”

The team will participate in the Seaside Invitational on Tuesday at the Astoria Golf & Country Club.

Warrenton girls solid at Quail Valley

The Warrenton High School girls golf team traveled to Quail Valley Golf Club for a match against Banks, Riverdale, Oregon Episcopal, Neah-Kah-Nie, Molalla and Gladstone High School.

Out of the five teams with enough golfers to score, the Warriors came home third behind Banks and Riverdale, with a 451. Banks, behind Jocelyn and Jade Janecek, scored a 388. Riverdale followed behind with a 431, while Oregon Episcopal (497) and Neah-Kah-Nie (500) rounded out the team scoring in fourth and fifth.

Hailey McDonald, of Gladstone, led all golfers with an 88. She was followed by Jocelyn Janecek with an 89, and Jade Janecek with a 91. Jezalynn Sturgell (92) and Savannah Bigelow (96) led the Warrenton Warriors and finished fourth and fifth. Kaidynce Daniels (125) and Amanda Nairn (138) finished 17th and 21st, respectively.

Seaside and Astoria girls duke it out

The Tillamook League Invite on Tuesday was very competitive, as all five teams were separated by just 29 strokes.

Tillamook, with a 430, won. They were followed closely by St. Helens at 441, Scappoose at 446, Seaside at 455 and Astoria at 459.

Tillamook’s Kelsey Leonnig was the winner, with a score of 97. The St. Helens duo of Piper Carlson (98) and Olivia Beck (102) were close behind. Marlee Both (103) and Aspen Braaten (109) led Astoria. Makenna White was Seaside’s low scorer with a 109.

Both and Braaten were followed by Maya Portillo (119), Jacklyn Dietrich (128) and Darby McCleary (130). For Seaside, White was followed by Kylie Keranen (113), Lolly Rahl (116) and Reagan Hartnett (117).
