Letter: Little celebration

Published 12:15 am Tuesday, February 27, 2024

Amid all the haste and conflict in the world, we want to offer this little celebration of what the two of us regard as one of our town’s most precious resources, the Astoria Co+op.

It is the occasion of the co-op’s 50th anniversary year, an achievement of significance that has come to pass because of the efforts of hundreds of people who have been part of the co-op over its half-century of existence.

I invite those who may have yet to go into the beautiful new co-op on Marine Drive at 23rd Street to stop in to enjoy the special environment of this grocery. Whether we stop there to pick up a few items for dinner, or shop for a week, we always find ourselves happy to be there!

When you stop in (no membership required) you will find a beautifully appointed, refreshingly clean place, filled only with only the highest-quality groceries and prepared foods, and other interesting items.

And, if your experience parallels ours, you will come across charming and engaged staff people who seem to really enjoy what they are doing, and you will find yourself among interesting fellow shoppers you are pleased to meet and chat with or share a cup of coffee.

On top of all its appeal of largely locally produced quality items, it is a great meeting place. Come join us for a cup or a great lunch some time!
