Warrenton looking to contact mini storage tenants

WARRENTON — The city is hoping to reach tenants who have mini storage units at 60 N.E. Iredale Ave.

Paul Leitch, who used to lease the property from the city, was evicted from the site in November following nonpayment of property taxes. According to City Manager Esther Moberg, Leitch has not notified any of the tenants who rent units at the property — which is located near the Warrenton Marina and has historically been used as fishermen’s storage — of his eviction. The city also does not have access to a list of tenants.

Moberg estimates that there are between 90 and 100 units at the site. About 30 people have reached out to the city so far to coordinate removal of their belongings, but Moberg encouraged the remainder to contact her at emoberg@warrentonoregon.us or 971-286-2017.

Mayor Henry Balensifer also emphasized that tenants are not required to pay rent on their units, either to the previous owner or to the city.

“It’s also imperative for people to know that they’re not being charged and the city is not charging them to store their stuff,” Balensifer said. “We just want them to get their stuff and take it out. The commission hasn’t decided what it’s going to do with the premises.”

The city hopes to clear out the units within the next couple of months and is also beginning the process of disposing of debris around the site.

Leitch could not be reached for comment.
