Nov. 7, 1924 — Aug. 20, 2023
Helen Bernice Rosenberger passed through heaven’s gates at 4:15 a.m. on Aug. 20 at the age of 98.
She was born on Nov. 7, 1924, in Woodson, to Charles Henry Steph and Mary Huhta Steph. Helen attended school in Woodson and Clatskanie before leaving home at the age of 16 to work as an apprentice printer at the Astoria Budget, today known as The Astorian, in order to help her widowed mother during the Great Depression.
In 1946, Helen married George N. (Rocky) Morrison and moved to San Diego, where their son, Charlie, was born. They later divorced.
Helen married Andrew A. Rosenberger in Juneau, Alaska, in 1971. A year later, they moved to Warrenton and purchased Marlin Avenue Grocery, which enabled them to develop many lifelong friendships in the community.
Helen enjoyed traveling and visiting national parks, as well as hunting and fishing. She worked many years in retail stores and later at Bumble Bee Cold Storage and Point Adams Packing Co.
She was a member of the Fort Stevens Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 10580 Auxiliary and the United Finnish Kaleva Brotherhood & Sisterhood, Astoria Lodge No. 2.
Helen is survived by her son, Charles C. (Charlie) Morrison and his wife, Sharren L. Morrison, of Portland; and her granddaughter, Autumn D. Leake-Morrison (Todd); great-grandchildren, Cyan D. and Chayton R.; and great-great-grandson, Genesis A., all of St. Helens.
Helen will also be lovingly remembered by her nephews and nieces: Mike Johnson, Greg Johnson and Lori Johnson, of Astoria; David Johnson, of Portland; Patti Johnson Stott, of Augusta, Georgia; Linda Lindstrom, of Keizer; and Betty Meyer, of Springfield.
Helen was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Andy Rosenberger; as well as her brother, George Steph; and sisters, Edna Pietila, Sally Johnson and an infant sister, who died of the Spanish flu in 1918, who Helen was named after.
A service will be held at 10 a.m. on Nov. 7 at Ocean View Cemetery in Warrenton.
