Ear: Shuffle

The Goonies house was featured in a Stars and Stripes story when the house owner, Behman Zakeri, warmly welcomed eight sailors from a guided-missile cruiser that stopped in Astoria on the way to the Rose Festival in Portland. This was on June 7, National Goonies Day.

With “The Goonies ‘R’ Good Enough” from the movie soundtrack playing, Zakeri trotted out to greet them warmly with a hearty “Hey, you guys!” (a famous line from the movie), and invited the startled but pleased men to come up into the yard for a closer look at the house. He even promised them a peek into the living room if one of them would perform the “initiation dance,” otherwise known as Chunk’s truffle shuffle.

After much dithering back and forth among the sailors, and worries about truffle shuffling in uniform, one sailor, identified only as Ron, was urged to come forward. “You’re only here one time. You came all this way, you gotta do it,” Zakeri coaxed him, and that did it. Ron caved.

Zakeri led him to the historic spot where the move was performed in the film, and the sailor complied with a Chunk-worthy truffle shuffle, to much cheers and applause. Zakeri put the results on TikTok.
