- Ear: Bottles
The Oregon Beverage Recycling Cooperative and Bottle Drop hosted their annual Hidden Bottle Hunt contest from July 5 to July 9, during which six bottles were hidden across Oregon. One clue per bottle was sent out per day for the participants to decipher. The finders kept the commemorative bottle and selected a nonprofit to receive a $1,000 donation.
The first bottle was found on Saturday (day four, for that bottle) in Astoria’s Columbia Field Park by a family from Portland: Helene, Jaime, Allen and Sam Wren. “There’s something very enjoyable about six hunts happening all at the same time,” Helene said. “The running joke was that our calendar was blocked this whole weekend, but we had no idea where we would be, just somewhere in the state.”
How they found the bottle is a mystery, as the clues are rather cryptic. One example: “Seek the path of celluloid / To a trail with a stop for a quinary droid / No parachute needed to get to this place / Just a strike of inspiration to win the treasure hunt race.”
“… As third-year participants, the Wrens were determined to win it this year for their beloved furry friend Tonks,” Grace Miyoshi, of the Oregon Beverage Recycling Cooperative wrote, “a mocha-colored pet rabbit, who passed away in January.” Their prize donation will be directed to the nonprofit Rabbit Advocates in Tonks’ honor.
