Kathleen Grainger, of Astoria, and most recently of San Sebastian del Oeste, Jalisco, Mexico, passed from this life on June 7, at the age of 73, in Scottsdale, Arizona. She was the oldest of five children.
She is survived by her children, Rebecca Orife (Iroro) and Felix Ward; grandchildren, Onajite and Odette; stepchildren, Robert Grainger, James Grainger (Claire Langdon) and Carol Grainger; sisters, Christine Flaherty (Gene Perri) and Jennifer Harvey; brothers, Patrick Flaherty and Ellis Harvey (Sarah); stepsister, Ann Manluccia (Skip); stepbrother, Rocky La Russo (Sandy); stepbrothers, Larry Symons (Linda) and Norm Symons (Pam); and many nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her beloved first husband, Felix E. Ward III, and by her beloved second husband, Herbert Grainger.
Kathleen was a graduate of Ohio University, a certified public accountant, and worked in tax consulting.
Most of all she loved her family and dearest friends. She was an exceptionally sweet, gentle soul and we were blessed to have her with us. Her kindness and generosity were unparalleled.
In addition to her career, she enjoyed cooking (world’s best homemade tapioca pudding, blueberry muffins and Spritz cookies at Christmas), sewing and traveling. She had a fondness for hats, and enjoyed having afternoon tea with friends and family. She will be dearly missed, and forever in our hearts.
Family and friends are invited to attend the graveside service at 10 a.m. June 24 at Green Acres Cemetery, 401 N. Hayden Road in Scottsdale.
Per Kathleen’s request, in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her name to Grace Episcopal Church in Astoria.
