Fire season starts soon

As warm and dry weather increases fire danger, the Oregon Department of Forestry has declared that fire season in Clatsop County will begin on Wednesday.

The announcement coincides with a countywide burn ban. Open debris burning will be prohibited and burn barrels require a burning permit. Only metal barrels in good condition covered by heavy mesh screens and holes no larger than a quarter of an inch are allowed. A charged water supply and hand tools are also required.

Restriction levels on public use spaces — from low to extreme — will indicate guidelines for forested areas. Restrictions are the same as last year. Areas marked with low risk allow campfires at designated campsites and dispersed campsites. Areas with moderate risk restricts campfires to designated campfires.

Industrial fire precaution levels span from level one to level four with accompanying restrictions on operations to protect forest resources. Restrictions are the same as last year.
