- Ear: SetJetters
Yes, the Goonies house traffic is a nuisance, but it is one of many Astoria and North Coast sites listed on an app called SetJetters, which is available on Google Play and the Apple App Store.
Yes, SetJetters is designed for people besotted with movies who want to travel to where they were filmed, and the app (possibly unfortunately) gives the exact address of the objects of their affection.
The app’s blurb explains it all: “The SetJetters team is developing the world’s largest movie scene location database with the purpose of connecting local economies with film tourists traveling to these locations … We have finally digitized an $8 billion dollar tourism industry, and put it all in one place!” They have locations in 47 countries, across 600 cities. There are also games, pins and yes, even local advertising.
You can use the map, or search for filming locations by entering the movie’s name. And by the way, the SetJetter “pin” for the Goonies house (“an unofficial national treasure”) includes parking instructions — to the neighbors’ immense relief, no doubt.
On the mixed blessing side: “For sites that were used as locations, they often become legendary for fans and enthusiasts, and can increase local tourism by 25 to 300%.” (Photo: Warner Bros.)
