The Roby’s Furniture and Appliance in Astoria will be relocating to Warrenton.

The furniture, home appliance and mattress dealer, which has a number of locations along the west side of Oregon, is midway through construction of a new facility off U.S. Highway 101 next to Tractor Supply Co.

The company aims to launch the new location in Warrenton sometime in early 2024. The existing location on Commercial Street will remain open until the move is made, Kyle Langeliers, who helps manage assets and properties for Roby’s, said.

Langeliers said the multistory building in downtown Astoria has several challenges with efficiency and customer service that the company will look to solve with a new building.

“Nobody likes to carry sofas up and down stairs,” he said. “That building has been a fantastic building for years and Astoria has been a great community.

“I think what it came down to was finding a space where we could have a single-level building and be able to have everything on one level to where we’re not packing things up and down stairs and we have better parking.”

Roby’s, a Tillamook-based company, opened in Astoria in 2010 in the building that formerly housed Hunt’s Home Furnishings, which sat in the location for over five decades.

Langeliers said Roby’s eyed a number of potential new locations in Astoria but determined that no available spaces made sense. The new location will have a similar square footage, but Langeliers pointed to opportunity for improvements.

“I feel like we’ll be able to offer better customer service, better line of sight and have it feel like the rooms are flowing together,” he said.

Langeliers noted his appreciation of the support from customers across Clatsop County.

“We’re not trying to offend anybody by moving to Warrenton and we’re not trying to offend anybody (because) we’re leaving Astoria,” he said. “We’re just simply trying to offer a better environment for all of the customers.”
