Sigh. Once again, we see the drumbeat for gun control. In the Jan. 7 Writer’s Notebook by Steve Forrester, he sees public opinion changing. Yes, it is. He sees a “public health” issue? No, it is not.

Does he know how many people are killed by cars every year? What is missing here is rational thought. Guns are no more the cause of crimes than cars are the cause of crimes. Does registering cars prevent crimes? Criminals use both, and knives, bombs, you name it.

Criminals are the cause of crime. Actual sick people. Until we get to the root cause, there will be tragedies. Yes, there is a rise in shootings, but it will not be cured by more laws.

Try enforcing the ones we have. Try taking criminals off the streets, instead of disarming or punishing honest people. Anyone who wants to actually look at the problem will see the truth.

Forrester seems to think political change will do the trick. No, it won’t, Steve. Law enforcement will.
