- Ear: Ferry
Local musician and documentary filmmaker Ron Walker requests personal stories, remembrances and experiences from people who rode the Tourist No. 2 ferry from Astoria to Megler, Washington, for a new documentary, “Gone, But Not Forgotten.”
The recently demolished ferry ran from 1924 to 1966, when then Astoria Bridge opened. Its only time off was during World War II, when it served as a mine layer before returning to its regular route.
Walker has had a longtime personal interest in the vessel, and began filming operations in the 1980s and 1990s, when it was in Washington. Have a story about the Tourist No. 2 ferry you’d like to tell him? Email riverwalker1946@charter.net
“I love making films,” Walker said on his Vimeo page. “Most of the films I make are documentaries. I enjoy making films about people and their hobbies and passions. I also have a passion for anything related to transportation and history. Trains, boats, planes … anything that moves.” Including beloved old ferry boats.
