“The Siege of Leningrad” will not be part of the Third Dimension Festival at the Liberty Theatre in June.
The Hermitage Piano Trio, whose members are from Russia, had initially intended to stage the performance as a statement against Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
But recent events in the war, including reports of civilian casualties, prompted second thoughts.
“Even though I think the intent and the idea behind this program is close to my heart, it’s just that the world situation becomes too sharp and too intense to do this program,” Sergey Antonov, the trio’s cellist, said. “It was not an easy decision for us to do, but we decided that there’s probably going to be another year and another time for this program to see the light.”

Residents over 50 are now able to get second booster shots against COVID-19 through Clatsop County.
The rollout comes as Oregon enters a new stage in pandemic response. Most government restrictions have been lifted and the state is scaling back the frequency of public reporting on the virus.
“We also know that the virus is continuing to change, and so there’s an unpredictability and an unknown as we continue to work, live and play through the pandemic,” Margo Lalich, the interim director of the county Public Health Department, said.
