- Gearhart population exceeds 1,500
Gearhart’s population continues to inch upward, with 1,505 residents, according to Portland State University’s population report. This represents a slight increase from 1,480 in 2017, according to statistics released Nov. 15.
Gearhart population during the 2010 census was listed at 1,460.
According to Portland State University numbers in July, Clatsop County saw a 1 percent rise from 2017-18, adding 380 residents for a total county population of 39,200. Seaside has 6,620 residents and the population of Cannon Beach is 1,710.
The preliminary July 1 population estimates show that Oregon’s population increased from 4,141,100 in 2017 to 4,195,300 in 2018. This increase of 54,200 represents a decline in population growth recorded between 2016 and 2017 when the state’s population grew by 64,750 residents. The growth between 2017 and 2018, a 1.3 percent year-over-year increase, is lower than the 1.6 percent growth recorded in the 2016-2017 period due to lower natural increase and net in-migration.
The annual Oregon Population Report is published in the following spring, usually by mid-April. The report presents the population estimates for Oregon and its counties and incorporated cities.
