Margaret Phillips

Medford

Sept. 26, 1924 — Oct. 27, 2017

A celebration of life will be held Oct. 27, 2018 for Margaret Ann Phillips at First Baptist Church in Astoria, Oregon.

Margaret Anna May Miglionico was born Sept. 26, 1924 in Denver, Colorado, to James Miglionico and Effie Ruth Doss (Bemus), and from age 12 was raised by her stepfather, Frank Bemus. Margaret went to be with her Lord and Savior on Oct. 27, 2017.

Margaret passed away peacefully, with family by her side at her foster home, The Good Shepherd in Medford, Oregon. Special thanks to Lisa and the caregivers who cared for her during her two years that she called The Good Shepherd home, and to Providence Hospice of Medford.

Margaret was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 56 years, Donald Eugene Phillips; her son, Paul Arthur Phillips; and her older sister, Mildred Harper, of San Diego, California. Margaret is survived by her sister, Fran Atkinson, of Denver, Colorado; her sons, Preston Phillips, of Banks, Oregon, and David Phillips (Sharon), of Astoria, Oregon; and her daughter, Donna Lango (Marshall), of Jacksonville, Oregon. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

Margaret was an active member in her church, First Baptist Church of Astoria, for 35 years until she moved to Jacksonville, Oregon, in 2010. Her faithfulness led her to serve in Sunday school, children’s church and women’s ministries. Margaret was dedicated for many years to the Child Evangelism Fellowship. She taught many children about Jesus through the CEF Good News Club and Vacation Bible School.

She was an accomplished seamstress, crossword puzzle player, and loved crafting, crocheting and cross stitching. In addition to all these wonderful qualities, our mother endured all with a great sense of humor! It was a dry sense of humor, sometimes silly — or a play on words. If someone were to ask her, “How are you feeling, Mom?” her favorite reply was, “with my fingers.”

There are countless memories of her love and joy for life, but, in closing, Margaret especially loved to be around people. She loved to talk, loved to hold hands and loved her family. She loved the Lord with all her heart, and shared his love with many. He is most certainly glorifying her for work well done. We know our mother felt lucky to be around for 93 years, but we were the lucky ones. Even though her health waned, she lived life to the fullest!

Margaret was loved dearly, and is deeply missed by her family and all that knew her. Please come and share Margaret’s life with us on Oct. 27, 2018, at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 349 Seventh St., Astoria, Oregon.
