Nov. 11, 1961—June 30, 2018

David Edward Johnson died on June 30, 2018, of end-stage congenital heart disease, a birth defect, at the Hopewell House Hospice in Portland, Oregon.

Johnson was born Nov. 11, 1961, in Los Angeles, California, to Edward and Janell Blackburn Johnson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Sandra Hirsch and Linda Brazer; a son, Edward Andrew Johnson; and his buddy-brother-in-law, Douglas Parvi.

David leaves his daughter, Keri and Dustin Jones, of Longview, Washington; a son, Andrew Ortiz, of Bend, Oregon; three stepchildren, Thomas, Sarah and Donald Thomas and their mom, Donna Johnson, of Tigard, Oregon; and granddaughter, Adalyn Johnson of Longview, Washington.

He also leaves two sisters, Laura Parvi, of Warrenton, Oregon, and Theresa and John Wheeler, of Heath, Ohio; two brothers, Chris and Shannan Jones of Astoria, Oregon, and Edward and Sharon Christiansen, of North Ridgeville, Ohio. He also had many nieces and nephews who considered David the fun uncle!

David graduated from Astoria High School in 1981. In high school, he wrestled, and he enjoyed wrestling after high school with his nephews. David also enjoyed singing in the high school choir and being the equipment manager for football.

After high school, David kept having fun! He traveled with the state fair, worked at the Liberty and Columbian theaters, Astoria roller rink and Oaks Park. He also worked on a processing ship in Alaska. His nephews and nieces loved when Uncle David would let them into the roller rink, Oaks Park and theaters for free.

David loved to teach skating, loved to bowl and go camping with family. We would listen to our 70s music for hours.

David had the honor of being an extra in the movie, “The Goonies!” He was the stand-in for Sean Astin. You can see David in many scenes. Remember the bike scene when Brand is holding onto the car and his legs go faster

and faster? Those were David’s legs!

David had a huge and giving heart. He was always there when you needed him and gave you anything and everything he had.

David was only 4 feet, 11 inches on a good day. He stated that God only had to make him that tall before reaching perfection! His favorite saying was, “Not everyone can be as good as a Johnson!”

A graveside service will be held July 14, 2018, at Greenwood Cemetery in Astoria. A potluck reception will follow at Laura Parvi’s house, 170 W. Harbor St., Warrenton, Oregon.
