June 28, 1938 — June 10, 2018

On June 10, 2018, Frank Furnish Jr. passed away suddenly. Frank was born June 28, 1938, to Frank and Stella Furnish, in the town of Auburn, Washington. He grew up in Buckley, Washington, on a 40-acre farm with his siblings Alan, Ted, Melinda, Patty and Mary.

Born with an entrepreneurial and inventing spirit, he had a paper route, and his own bicycle shop, during high school. He also participated in Future Farmers of America, track and golf, and became the statewide Junior Square Dance Champion.

He graduated from Multnomah Bible College in 1963, where he met and fell in love with Beverly Sigurdson. On Aug. 10, 1963, he married his sweetheart. Over the next nine years, they had five children, filling their home with laughter, busy feet and chatter.

Frank worked a variety of jobs at the Department of Forestry, Boeing and Bell Buoy Crab Co. He also co-owned Gentle Haven Inc., an adult foster care home, in Seaside, Oregon, and served on the Oregon State Foster Home Association as a state representative.

Dad was a natural “MacGyver” with duct tape. He was skilled in problem-solving and inventing cheaper, more efficient solutions. While some said “he thought outside the box,” we think he didn’t know there was a box.

Passionate about the Bible and sharing God’s love, Frank established Gospel Echo Inc. (GEI), a volunteer ministry that retranslated Christian radio stations into urban areas throughout the Northwest, such as K-Love and KPDQ. GEI grew to 24 translator stations, and two Class A Christian radio stations.

The king of corny jokes, dad always had a colorful, animated story and joke to share with you, leaving you with a smile and feeling good about you. He was not a quitter, and never accepted a bad day. We will greatly miss his humor, tenacity, love of God and volunteer spirit to always help and love those around him.

He is survived by his wife, Beverly; siblings, Alan and Barbara, Mary and Ed and Patty and David; children, Mark, Frank and Teresa, Bobee-Kay and Jim, JoAnn and Stephanie and James; grandchildren, Zachary, Benjamin and Allison, Alex, Rebekah, Ian, Jessica, Luke and Maddy, Gabriel, Kayla and Abby; one great-grandson, Ives; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Please join us Saturday, June 23, 2018, as we celebrate his life at 11 a.m. (viewing at 10 a.m.) at Lighthouse Christian Church, 88786 Dellmoor Loop, Warrenton, Oregon, with a reception to follow.
