Cornelius

May 16, 1938 — Jan. 5, 2017

Lola Jean Ewing, 78, of the Cornelius community, passed away Thursday, Jan. 5, 2017. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2017, at Willamette National Cemetery.

Lola was born on May 16, 1938, in Milroy, Minnesota. She was the third of four children born to Carl and Ida (Shouer) Vetter. Lola grew up and received her education in Milroy. She graduated from Milroy High School with the Class of 1956. Following high school, Lola moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota, and studied at North Central Bible College for one year.

Lola met the love of her life, Clarence, at the church they both attended. After a six-month courtship, they were married on July 27, 1962, in Minneapolis. They lived in Minneapolis until 1968, when they moved to Wisconsin so that Clarence could take a job as a minister. They remained in the area for 10 years.

In 1978 the family moved to Montana. In 1980, his job led them to Wyoming. In 1983, they settled in Alsea, Oregon, but moved to Central Point and Warrenton. After 48 years of marriage, Clarence passed away in 2010. Lola moved to Cornelius in 2013 to be closer to family. Lola was a very active member of the Assembly of God church in Warrenton, Oregon.

She loved children, and knew God had called her to be a preschool teacher. She found such joy in teaching. Lola also enjoyed working in her vegetable garden, going to the beach, reading, playing computer games and watching TV.

Lola is preceded in death by her husband, Clarence; and sisters Carole Howe, Sarah Jindra and Nancy Maxwell Trei. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Esther and Terry Vosberg of Cornelius, Oregon; brother-in-law Wendell of Wilmer, Minnesota; and granddaughter Paisley Vosberg.

The family suggest donations in Lola’s name be made to the Sepsis Alliance.
