The photo shown of the Jerry Finch (aka Jerry Finch Sr.) name tag was posted by Mikey Edwards of Warrenton, along with the following text: “Anyone from the class of 1954? Or have a parent that graduated that year? I unearthed this today (Monday) with my metal detector, and would love to get it back to the family. The guy would be in his mid-80s by now; I’ve tried researching, but found very little. Hoping one of you recognizes the name.”
Does anyone remember Jerry Finch or his family, or know where they might be now? If so, please contact the Ear at 503-325-3211, ext. 257 or ewilson@dailyastorian.com, and the information will be forwarded to Mikey.
In case you’re wondering, he found the tag near Fultano’s, about 7 inches deep in the ground. “A lot of people frown upon metal detecting. And people digging,” Mikey told the Ear. “When done properly, there is no sign of a hole ever being there.”

“ … I’m sure this guy’s son or daughter would be thrilled to have this relic hanging around their neck, and that’s what it’s all about for me,” he explained. “Recovering and preserving history … Something that had been in the ground for 60 to 100 years, unearthed and returned to its rightful owner. No better feeling.”
