Smoked salmon, shrimp, alligator, lobster, octopus are just some of chowders Bob Tenney makes in addition to the traditional clam chowder. A special corn beef and cabbage chowder is reserved St. Patty's Day. All the recipes come from a cookbook he's created over the years.

LONG BEACH — When it comes to home-cooked, comfort food, Captain Bob’s Chowder in Long Beach is one of the best in Washington, according to a June article published on onlyinyourstate.com

Located at 409 Pacific Ave. in Long Beach, the restaurant was listed no. 9 on “12 Mom & Pop Restaurants In Washington That Serve Home Cooked Meals To Die For,” according to the June 22 article by Nikki Cleveland.

“Captain Bob’s Chowder is always worth a stop while you’re in Long Beach. The locally-owned coastal restaurant makes some of the most delicious crab cakes, and clam chowder in bread bowls,” the article said. The restaurant received previous awards from Trip Advisor and Travel Companion, but it was the first time on a top-10 list for the restaurant.

Owners Bob and Cathy Tenney have only been making chowder commercially together since 2009, after a 23-year career managing apartments together in Olympia. Cathy explained, “We try to keep it low as possible cost-wise.” For more information, visit www.captainbobschowder.com
