- Map indicating donated portions of land to the Seaside School District from Weyerhaeuser Co.
SEASIDE — The 80 acres Weyerhaeuser will donate to the school district is in the shape of a rectangle on the hillside immediately east of Sunset Heights Elementary School. Dougherty displayed a map of the property at a school board meeting Tuesday night.
Because a stream runs along the northern top of the property, a 100-foot buffer will be maintained between the stream and the school buildings, Dougherty said. The buildings will be constructed on the western portion of the parcel, while the eastern portion will contain a ball field, he said.
Spruce Loop, the street that goes up to Seaside Heights, will be extended to the new school site. However, a second, emergency access road also will be needed. Mainline Road, which served timber operations in that area, lies in the southeast corner of the school site and could also be extended through the property, according to Dougherty.
Weyerhaeuser will remove the timber on the property, he said.
“It’s exciting news,” Dougherty added. “So many people from around the country have been following our needs and issues, and they are excited for us.”
