SEASIDE — The Oregon State Elks Association held its 99th Summer Session in Seaside April 21-23. An estimated 800 Elks, representing 51 Oregon lodges, plus Elks visiting from Montana, Washington and Idaho, attended workshops, meetings and social events. The convention offered information and training to the members, and shared the impact Oregon Elks have had in their communities over the last year. Guest speakers included Police Chief Dave Ham and state Sen. Betsy Johnson, who both received standing ovations.
Oregon State Elks Association 2015-2016 President James Alameda of Springfield ran the sessions. Jerry Endicott of Baker City was installed as the 2016-2017 state president, and Past National President James Damon and his wife, D.J., of Bend attended the proceedings.
Seaside Lodge 1748 hosted the convention with the help of the Seaside Civic and Convention Center. Oregon Elks have voted to hold their April conventions in Seaside in 2017-2020 due to the local facilities, motels and community attractions.
“Lodge 1748 is thankful to local businesses and friends who support the motto ‘Elks Care — Elks Share,’” Jan Jackson, Seaside Elks public relations chairwoman, said.
