Midsummer Festival Court to be presented Tuesday

The formal presentation of the 2016 Astoria Scandinavian Midsummer Festival Court takes place at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Astoria High School, in the Commons area. Coffee and treats are being provided by the Viking Nordic Dancers, who will also be performing. All are welcome.
Miss Scandinavia 2015 is Meisha Boettcher, daughter of Gary and Ingrid Boettcher. Her grandparents are March and Don Boettcher. She is a senior at Knappa High School, where she is class president and also wrestles. She works as a caregiver at Clatsop Retirement Village part time, and volunteers at the Clatsop County District Attorney’s Office. She plans to attend Clatsop Community College in the fall to study criminal justice, then later transfer to Western Oregon University. She finishes her reign as Miss Scandinavia 2015 during the Scandinavian Midsummer Festival Coronation, when she crowns Miss Scandinavia 2016.
Senior Miss Denmark is Kaitlyn Landwehr, daughter of Keith and Mindy Landwehr. Her grandparents are Lowell and Carolyn Knapp and Don and Fay Landwehr of Astoria. She is a junior at Knappa High School, where she is class president, plays volleyball and basketball, and is on the equestrian team. She has been involved in the Scandinavian Midsummer Festival since she was born, was Junior Miss Denmark, and also danced for a few years with the Viking Nordic Dancers.
Senior Miss Finland is Kaisa Israel, daughter of Kent and Brittany Israel of Astoria and Linda Israel. Her grandparents are Kent and Kathy Israel and Laura Welch, and George and Paula Paavola. She is a junior at Astoria High School and is on the varsity basketball team and equestrian team. She also competes and shows at the Clatsop County Fair, showing her horse and swine.
Senior Miss Norway is Megan McCall-DeVos, daughter of Jonathon and Michelle Devos. Her grandparents are Kellie Selven Bakenen, Mike McCall and Tony and Thea DeVos. She is a senior at Astoria High School, where she is the head captain of the Astoria High School Dance Team, team president of Business Leaders of Tomorrow and president of the 4-H group Black Sheep. She is a co-junior leader of 4-H, as well as a cadet at Warrenton Kids Cove.
Senior Miss Sweden is Megan Sweet, daughter of Chad and Denele Sweet of Seaside. Her grandparents are Jeff and Trish Sweet and Frank and Cindy Decius. She is a junior at Seaside High School, where she is involved in the symphonic band. She has played soccer, participated in track and been involved in 4-H. She is a dance teacher, and also an Encore Dance elite gymnast.
Junior Miss Denmark is Ashley Lacy of Astoria. She is in the third grade, plays basketball on the Wet Dog Team and is a dancer with the Viking Nordic Dancers. Her parents are Mark and Kathryn Lacy; her grandparents are Rod VanSon of Ilwaco, Washington, George and Kay Lacy of Hayden, Idaho, and the late Gwen VanSon.
Junior Miss Finland is Lillian Helligso of Astoria. She is in the second grade, active in dance at Maddox Dance Studio in ballet, tap, hip-hop and acrobatics, and has performed in “The Nutcracker” ballet for Maddox and the Missoula Children’s Theater. She is also a Brownie Girl Scout. Her parents are Ryan and Brandi Hellisgo; her grandparents are Larry and Deanna Hellisgo, Roxanne Fluhrer and the late Dale McGinnis.
Junior Miss Iceland is Ava Dawn Thornton of Warrenton. She is a third-grader, and active in soccer, basketball and baseball and ballet. Her parents are Ryker and Missy Thornton; her grandparents are Don and Kandie Thornton and the late Bob and Sonja Bjaranson. Her mother was Junior Miss Iceland in 1982.
Junior Miss Norway is Hailey Svensen of Astoria. She is a first-grader and her activities include dance, tumbling, soccer, T-ball, cooking and taking care of chickens. Her parents are Adam and Melissa Svensen; her grandparents are David and Judy Nygaard and Tom and Jackie Svensen. Her great-grandparents are Martin Nygaard, Ron Angberg and Dorothy Nadon and the late Dolores Nygaard.
Junior Miss Sweden is Sienna Barnes of Astoria, who is in the third grade. She is a member of the Viking Nordic Dancers, and her other activities include gymnastics and rollerblading. Her parents are Kristen Sodervick, Eric Lane and Adam Barnes; her grandparents are Nancy Lane, Bob Lane, David Sodervick and the late Phyliss Mattix. Her great-grandparents are Dave and Lorine Hoyer.
Crown Bearer is Luke Patterson of Astoria, a fourth-grader, who plays football and basketball and is in 4-H. His parents are Kelley and Melissa Patterson; his grandparents are Christine Patterson and the late Danny Patterson. His great-grandparents are the late Hugh and Harriette Forney.
Senior Court Chaperone is Bev Hoofnagle of Astoria, who is married to Dave Hoofnagle. She has been involved with the Scandinavian Dance Group and the festival since 1983.
Junior Court Chaperone is Susan Jackson of Warrenton, who is married to Dan Jackson. She is the daughter of Dave and Bev Hoofnagle, and has been involved with the Viking Nordic Dancers for over 30 years.
