May 18, 1948 — Feb. 5, 2015
Dominic “Don” Tagliavento passed away peacefully on Feb. 5, 2015, at his home in Portland after courageously fighting a 20-year illness.
Don was born in May 18, 1948, in Astoria, Ore., to Barty and Ben “Tag” Tagliavento. He grew up in the Lewis & Clark Valley outside of Astoria, and loved to be in the outdoors with his father and brothers. Graduating from Astoria High School in 1966, Don was a very gifted athlete, playing football and basketball.
After graduating from the University of Oregon with a bachelor’s degree, and Portland State University with a master’s degree, he began his career path at the Oregon State Dammasch Hospital.
Don later successfully managed a fuel distribution depot for Delta Western Co. out of Juneau, Alaska. From there he moved to Seattle, where he spent many years as a financial consultant for Shearson Lehman and AG Edwards. Not to be unchallenged, he then went on to complete the Oregon State Police Academy program, becoming a parole officer for Multnomah County until retirement.
Don loved sports and the outdoors, becoming a superb fly fisherman. Fishing the Metolius River was as good as watching his beloved U of O Ducks.
It has been said that Don might be the nicest person you’ll ever meet.
Don is survived by his wife of 18 years, Candace; brothers Mike (Maria) Tagliavento and Tom (Sandy) Tagliavento; sisters Sharon (Jim) Watkins-Vick and Marianna (Peter) Essex; daughter Liisa (Ken) King; son Andy (Becky) Kovach; and many grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Don was predeceased by his mother and father, and brother Chuck Sands.
There is no service planned.
