Jeffrey Hocken

Astoria

March 4, 1971 — Nov. 4, 2014

Jeffrey Ryan Hocken was born March 4th, 1971, in Newport, Ore., to Butch and Gina Hocken, where he joined his sister Dianna. In September 2005 he met the love of his life, Carrie Sheker. Jeff settled down and made a life with Carrie and her daughter Callie.

Jeff died while doing something he truly enjoyed, hunting. His dog “Kittie” was at his side, and his last phone call was to Carrie to tell her he loved her and would be home soon.

Jeff graduated from Newport High School in the class of 1989. His hobbies included hunting, motorcycles, ATVs and being with his friends.

Jeff  began his fishing career at 7 months old. At 10 years old, Jeff was already an accomplished mechanic and could rebuild any engine diesel or gas. He was also very good at fabricating  parts if none were available. Jeff’s work ethics were beyond reproach. As a child he could work as hard and as long as any grown man, and was paid accordingly.

While in high school he spent his summer doing joint venturing with Raymond and Danny Hall.

Jeff finally left the ocean, after 30-plus years working with the top producers. After meeting Carrie and Callie, he got his license to do excavating and construction to be with Carrie and Callie more.  That was the biggest blessing in life!

Jeff was an avid hunter, and expert marksman with either a rifle or a bow. Jeff  learned from his dad and grandfather safety and respect of his environment. He was always known to help his community, or the county. He had won many Boone & Crockett Game Awards.

Jeff  leaves behind his mother, Gina Hocken; his true love, Carrie, and her daughter, Callie; and his sister, Dianna Heacock and her husband, Guy, and his nephew, J.J. Heacock. He also left behind numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Butch Hocken; his grandfather, Bill Hocken; and his grandmother, Jean Hocken.

We will all miss his stories and humor. There will be a gathering in remembrance of Jeff’s life on Nov. 22nd from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Astoria Yacht Club, 300 Industry, Suite 201, Astoria. Please bring you favorite Jeff stories. We recommend everyone come in Jeff-approved attire.

You may contact Dianna Heacock at 503-861-7060 to ask questions, get information about memorial donations.
