Steven Alan Larson, 62, passed away from heart failure after open heart surgery Saturday, Nov. 1, at Saint Vincent’s Healthcare in Billings, Mont.

Steve was born in Astoria, Ore., on June 29th, 1952, to Glenn and Mildred (Braun) Larson.

After serving in the Army, Steve attended Oregon State University and earned a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering. In 1979, he was hired by Pacific Power & Light and worked for them until his passing. At that time he was the Wyoming Area engineer manager.

It was at PP&L that he met his wife, Sue. They were married in January of 1980. In 1981, they moved to Wyoming when he accepted the position of assistant area engineer. In 1983, their daughter, Jennifer, was born.

Steve was an accomplished engineer and truly enjoyed what he did. In 2001 he received an award as team leader for the power distribution of the 2002 Olympics held in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Steve was an avid outdoorsman. He loved hunting, fishing, rock climbing, hiking, and camping. He also enjoyed many sports which included jogging, bicycling, racquetball, basketball, and soccer. In his younger years he participated in many 5Ks, 10Ks, and marathons. He completed several Hood to Coast relay races.

In his later years he rediscovered his love of motorcycles. He enjoyed touring Wyoming, Montana, Utah, and Idaho with his wife and good friends. He also became a rider coach for a motorcycle safety program. and spent many weekends teaching classes.

He was preceded in death by his parents and older sister, Glenda.

Steve is survived by his wife of 34 years, Sue; his daughter, Jennifer (Lester) Zook; a brother, David (Angela) Larson; sisters Lynette (Allen) Vollmer, and Roberta (Tim) Thurber; and many nieces and nephews.

Cremation has taken place. There will be no memorial service at this time. A celebration of life will be held on his birthday June 29th, 2015.

We will miss his ready laugh, friendly nature and good spirit.
