Voters approved a measure that will give Warrenton Rural Fire Protection District $49,000 each year for five years beginning in 2016-17 for general operations.

Measure 4-173 received 286 votes, or 70.1 percent in the final unofficial ballot count. Votes numbered 122 against the measure.

The measure, which renews an existing local option tax set to expire at the end of fiscal year 2015-16, has a maximum amount of $245,000 that will be imposed in $49,000 each year for five years.

Each year, the fire district will assess only the amount necessary to fund its operating cost, not to exceed $49,000.

The tax funds will go toward the general operations of the Warrenton Rural Fire Protection District to pay a part of contractual services provided by the city of Warrenton.

The fire district contracts with the city to provide fire protection and emergency medical services within the fire district.

The estimated proposed tax will result in a rate of 5.3 cents per $1,000 of assessed value in the first year.
