Job Corps kudos
Trending
Tongue Point Job Corps is a tremendous community asset that doesn’t get the recognition it deserves. I have had great experiences working with volunteer young men and women from Job Corps at Clatsop Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) events, at Victory Over Child Abuse (VOCA) camp, and on a variety of other community projects.
Recently, I had the good fortune to get to know several young men from the painting program at Job Corps who were hired by my painting contractor, Christy Mather. Under Mather’s excellent supervision, these young men worked so hard every day, did a stellar job and were unfailingly pleasant to have around. They genuinely appreciated the chance to learn on the job and were so grateful for the simplest gesture (like lemonade on a very hot afternoon).
I’d like to send my thanks to the man in charge of the painting program at Job Corps, Dewey Taylor, and to the talented and hard-working Mather, for their joint efforts to enhance the experience these students are having. Through partnerships like this, students have the opportunity to be part of the larger community and to prepare themselves for what should be a very bright future.
