Kathryn Mary Greene, 74, of Warrenton, Oregon, died Sunday, June 29, 2014, in Honolulu, Hawaii.
The youngest of 4 children, she was born to the late Rose (Hindinger) and Clarence Goetz, September 8, 1939, in Los Angeles, California. Being 15 years younger than her next sibling, she grew up with and helped take care of many of her beloved nieces and nephews.
Kathy graduated from Inglewood High School in 1957. She married her high school sweetheart, the late John Gerald Greene Jr., in 1958 at American Martyrs Catholic Church, Manhattan Beach. Kathy and John loved fast cars and raced A/Roadster class cars until their children were born. They bought their first home in Redondo Beach, California, before relocating to Rossmoor, Orange County, in 1968.
Most of Kathys career was working as a payroll supervisor with Golden West Homes in Santa Ana. After the death of her husband she moved to Sacramento to work with Karsten Homes, and finally with the Ensign Group in San Juan Capistrano, until she retired in 2004 to spend more time with her family. In 2007, Kathy moved to Oregon with her daughters family.
Kathy had a great sense of humor and loved to play practical jokes on her co-workers. She was an avid reader, loved to bake and was seldom seen without a Coca-Cola in her hand. Kathys joy was to have a beautiful lawn and garden, and roses were her favorite.
Both Kathy and John were passionate about travel. Their favorite place was Makaha on the island of Oahu. That is where she chose as her last resting place after cancer took its toll on her body. She lived with cancer with courage, grace and dignity and a lot of humor at the darndest times.
Kathy is survived by two children: Julie Greene and John Greene of Warrenton, Oregon, two grandsons, Christopher Greene and Nicholas Mace, and many other dear relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband John, her parents, brothers Jim and Tom Goetz, and her sister Marion Graff. Our family is deeply grateful to everyone that touched Kathys life.
Memorial contributions may be made to Islands Hospice, 1301 Young Street, Honolulu, HI 96814, or your local humane society.
A celebration of life will be held in Southern California in August, 2014.
