Cannon Beach police log: June 8-21

June 8

10:49 a.m. 300 block of Elk Creek Road: dog/animal complaints. Officer met with complainant and took report. Officer attempted to locate the dog owner but was unable to do so.

10:48 p.m. 700 block of Ocean Avenue: suspicious circumstances. Subject stated phone line at rental house was out of service. Officer was asked to contact the homeowner, but homeowner never answered. A voicemail was left without reply. Officer checked the phone box outside the residence, and it appeared to be normal. No lines were cut. Officer was unable to make contact with any responsible person. Call was unfounded.

June 9

4:21 a.m. Second Street and beach front: camping within city limits. Subjects warned for overnight camping.

4:57 a.m. Second Street parking lot: possession of less than one ounce of marijuana. Subject was contacted for overnight camping. After further investigation, subject was cited for possession.

12:05 p.m. 100 block of East Gower Street: fugitive. Suspect with warrant turned himself in. Suspect was transported to Clatsop County Sheriffs Office jail, where he was housed.

10:41 p.m. Fire station: dog/animal complaints. Officer was contacted by citizen reporting that a bird had been hit on the road in front of the fire station. Officer responded to the location and found the bird deceased. Bird was removed from the roadway.

11:10 p.m. 500 block of South Hemlock Street: assistance provided to Cannon Beach Fire and Rescue with a fallen patient. She had hit her head and was bleeding. Patient was transported to Providence Seaside Hospital.

11:55 p.m. Second Street parking lot: camping within city limits. Officer initiated contact with an occupied vehicle. Officer advised occupant of the city ordinance regarding overnight camping. Officer issued a warning and assisted the occupant in locating a place to stay for the evening.

June 10

3:06 a.m. 10 block of North Hemlock Street: public assistance. Subject called 9-1-1 to ask for an officer to walk her to her car. Officer contacted individual and assisted with her need.

9 a.m. 100 block of West Fernwood Street: code violation. Report of overgrown vegetation on lot. Officer took photos of the vegetation, contacted the owner and advised him of the code violation. Owner said he would be in Cannon Beach the following Monday or Tuesday and would take care of it.

2:41 p.m. 400 block of Kimberly Court: code violation. Complaint of a fire hazard due to high vegetation. Officer took photos, left a message with owner.

7:35 p.m. Second Street and U.S. Highway 101: assistance provided to Clatsop County Sheriffs Office with a motor vehicle blocking traffic near the highway. Officer assisted the persons involved in getting the vehicle moved off the highway and preventing any further hazards.

10:22 p.m. Gower Street at beach access: call for information. Officer responded for report of fireworks on the beach. Officer made contact with various persons in the area and was unable to find the responsible person involved. Officer continued to contact the public and question but was unable to locate the persons involved.

11:13 p.m. Elk Run Park: camping within city limits. Officer warned subject about unlawful lodging. Officer initiated contact with occupied vehicle parked at Elk Creek Run Park. Officer advised occupant of the city ordinance regarding overnight camping. Officer issued a warning and assisted the occupant in locating a place to stay for the evening.

June 11

1:10 a.m. Second Street restrooms: camping within city limits. Officer initiated contact with occupied vehicle. Officer advised the occupant of the city ordinance regarding overnight camping. Officer issued a warning.

1:45 a.m. Madison Street and Pacific Avenue: minor in possession of alcohol.

4:41 a.m. Harrison beachfront: camping within city limits. Subjects contacted and warned for unlawful lodging.

10:10 a.m. 400 block of Fir Street: animal abuse I. Report of neglected horses.

9:37 p.m. Tolovana Wayside: call for information. Subject was having motor vehicle issues and also had a strange encounter with another male in the area. Reporting person stated he was confronted by a male carrying a backpack who seemed to be rambling his words and making derogatory comments. Reporting party asked what he should do if the male subject returned. Officer provided reporting person with contact information to the police department should any further contact be made and then gathered a description of the subject.

June 12

2:39 p.m. U.S. Highway 101 and Cannon Beach: traffic complaint. Report of tree branches blocking highway northbound lane. Branches were removed.

6:33 p.m. 100 block of East Gower Street: dog/animal complaints. Dog at large found in the S-curves. Caller brought dog to police department. Dog owner contacted police department and took dog back home.

7:40 p.m. 100 block of East Adams Street: civil issue. Issue with granddaughter taking vehicle and emptying checking account. Granddaughter had been given permission to access both the account and the vehicle. Civil issue at this time.

June 13

12:26 a.m. 1900 block of South Pacific Street. 9-1-1 hang-up. Officer arrived on scene to find lower north side door unsecured. Officer conducted a check of the building. No one was home, and nothing appeared missing. Officer secured residence and cleared.

1:11 a.m. Tolovana Wayside: camping within city limits. Subject warned for overnight camping.

4:08 a.m. 1800 block of Haystack Lane: code violation. Missing address number.

4:42 a.m. 1900 block of South Pacific Street: 9-1-1 hang-up. Officer received report of 9-1-1 hang-up from residence. Residence was secure and no one home. Officer received previous 9-1-1 hang-up call from same residence. Possibly weather related (rain).

June 14

7:49 a.m. Beach at Haystack Rock: code violation. Subject warned for entering protected wildlife refuge.

1:22 p.m. 200 block of West Second Street: dog/animal complaints. Citizen reporting dog left in car for 30 minutes. Officer located car but was unable to locate dog in car.

8:30 p.m. 100 block of Taft Street: call for information. Officer received report of notes being left on windshield of vehicle when it is parked in front of different residences on Taft Street. Vehicle was parked legally at the times of the incidents. Officer will contact again if it continues.

June 15

12:05 a.m. Sewer ponds: camping within city limits. Subjects contacted and warned for overnight camping.

12:37 a.m. 200 block of North Spruce Street: DUII. Subject arrested for driving under the influence  of intoxicants, later blew 0.14 blood alcohol count.

12:42 a.m. Sewer ponds: camping within city limits. Subjects contacted and received warnings for overnight camping.

1:51 a.m. Hallmark Resort at beach: fireworks offense. Complaint of large firework explosion. Officers unable to locate any involved subjects.

10:32 a.m. Beach at Haystack Rock: citizen arrest. Officer assisted citizen with transportation to the beach.

1:01 p.m. Tolovana Wayside: officer responded for a report of a female having difficulty breathing. Officer assisted Cannon Beach Emergency Rescue and Medix with a female who was feeling very sick and frequently vomiting. Female was transported to Providence Seaside Hospital by Medix. Female had a dog in the car. Dog was taken into custody for safe keeping until the female returned. Vehicle was locked and secured and high-value items taken for safe keeping.

3:49 p.m. 3100 block of South Hemlock Street: property crimes. Theft of sandwich board that had been standing in front of the Surfcrest Market. Taken from 11 p.m. on June 14 to 3 p.m. on June 15. No suspects. Notified by dispatch that the victim recovered the sign by the side of the road a short way down from the market.

5:45 p.m. 500 block of Ocean Avenue: assistance provided to another agency. Report of a possible chimney fire at 563 Ocean Avenue. Provided fire investigation support and engineered an apparatus.

June 16

 

12:26 a.m. Second Street parking lot: camping within city limits. Subjects warned for overnight camping.

12:59 a.m. U.S. Highway 101 at U.S. Highway 26 underpass: furnishing alcohol to minor and minor in possession.

3:25 p.m. Unknown: hit-and-run between vehicle and property. Cold hit-and-run report; obtained via email. Telephonically contacted on June 16. Vehicle was parked legally in a downtown parking lot (unsure which one). Damage consisted of indentation, scratches and scuffs to lower passenger side rear door. Incident occurred between 1 and 1:30 p.m. Victim was provided a case file number for insurance purposes.

3:40 p.m. Mos: property lost. Reported found wallet turned into Mos Restaurant. Owner was located by officer, who released the wallet to owner. All items still in wallet except $300 cash. Owner had initially lost his wallet on the beach.

9 p.m. 100 block of Hills Lane: assistance provided to Cannon Beach Emergency Rescue and Medix. Female patient had fallen and needed assistance getting up. Patient was weak from malnutrition and complained of ankle, hip and back pain. Patient was transported by Medix to Providence Seaside Hospital.

11:22 p.m. U.S. Highway 101 at milepost 28: suspicious circumstances. Subject contacted and warned for unlawful hitchhiking. Subject was given a courtesy ride to Seaside.

June 17

5:33 p.m. 100 block of East Washington Street: false residential alarm. Officer arrived and met with the responsible party.

June 18

12:03 a.m. Les Shirley Park: camping within city limits. Officer initiated contact with an occupied RV. Occupants were advised of the city ordinance regarding overnight camping and warned. Officer assisted the occupants in locating a place to stay for the evening.

3:18 a.m. 400 block of Silver Point Court: property lost. Officers were contacted by a citizen at the police department to report that missing phone had been located. The phone had gone missing Saturday night/Sunday morning and was located using an iPad application. The phone was located in Seaside. Officer were able to locate the phone with the help of the Seaside Police Department. Phone was retrieved and returned to its owner.

9:22 a.m. U.S. Highway 101 at Second Street: DUII. Subject arrested for driving under the influence of intoxicants, tampering with drug records and reckless driving.

11:06 p.m. Chamber of Commerce: unsecure premise. During evening patrol, officers found building to be unsecured. Officers checked the immediate surrounding areas for anything out of place. Officer searched the exterior and interior of the premise. Building was found to be unoccupied and clear. Officers secured the building and cleared.

11:18 p.m. Second Street restrooms: camping within city limits. Officer initiated contact with an occupied vehicle. Occupant was advised of the city ordinance regarding overnight camping. Occupant was warned and assisted in locating a place to stay for the evening.

June 19

1:31 a.m. First and Spruce streets: assistance rendered. Officer assisted two intoxicated males with a courtesy ride back to their campsite. Subjects were dropped off and officer cleared.

1:34 p.m. 1100 block of Spruce Court: animal nuisance. Chief Jason Schermerhorn attempted to contact owners and/or dog at location. Unable to locate.

6:40 p.m. 1100 block of Spruce Court: domestic assault IV.

6:47 p.m. Gower Street parking lot: traffic complaint. Officer advised of possible intoxicated drivers getting ready to leave in vehicle. Officer on priority call and unable to respond. Addressing a domestic assault that resulted in an arrest and unable to respond.

7:21 p.m. 1100 block of South Hemlock Street: dog/animal complaints. Black pit bull picked up and later released to owner.

10:55 p.m. 100 block of East Coolidge Avenue: call on a disturbance. Smoke detector left outside on porch of home being remodeled. No one home. Rain caused detector to short out and continuously sound alarm. Detector could not be silenced. Detector was a sealed unit and had to be opened and battery broken out to be silenced.

June 20

1:40 a.m. City Hall parking lot: camping within city limits. Subjects contacted and warned for overnight camping.

1:52 a.m. Second Street restroom: camping within city limits. Subjects contacted and warned for overnight camping.

11 a.m. EVOO Cannon Beach Cooking School: trespass notice.

2:27 p.m. First and Hemlock streets: dog/animal complaints. Request for welfare check on constantly barking dogs left in vehicle. Officer arrived. Windows were cracked; dogs were barking. At 2:35, the outside temperature was 64 degrees. The vehicle inside temperature was 90 degrees. Officer left a note on the car and will check back throughout the afternoon.

9:54 p.m. Northbound on U.S. Highway 101 from Sunset Boulevard: call on a disturbance. Report of a possible domestic disturbance. Male seen hitting female walking on highway. Unable to locate.

June 21

1:49 a.m. Tolovana Wayside: camping within city limits. Seven subjects warned for overnight camping.

4:52 a.m. Elk Run Park: camping within city limits. Two subjects warned for overnight camping.

6:39 a.m. 1800 block of Haystack Lane: dog bite. Took report of dog bite. Dog belonged to victims brother. Victim does not wish to pursue the matter and does not require reimbursement for medical expenses incurred.

7:08 a.m. Seventh and Oak streets: camping within city limits.

7:25 a.m. 3600 block of East Chinook Street: assistance provided to fire department with a medical call. Male possibly having a stroke.

8:20 a.m. 1300 block of South Hemlock Street: code violation. Complaint of a vendor selling popcorn street-side. Officer responded and issued a citation for outdoor merchandising.

2:17 p.m. Beach at Haystack Rock: missing person. Report of a found child. Officer was able to reunite the child with parents.

2:40 p.m. Beach: dog bite.

2:42 p.m. U.S. Highway 101 at milepost 30: assistance provided to Oregon Department of Transportation in removing a vehicle from ditch.

2:52 p.m. 100 block of North Hemlock Street: suspicious circumstances. Report of a suspicious male making employees uncomfortable. Officer searched the area but was unable to locate the male.

3:18 p.m. U.S. Highway 101 at milepost 26: motor vehicle accident. Assistance provided with information exchange for minor motor vehicle crash.

4:12 p.m. Beach: theft III. Theft of purse.

4:55 p.m. Beach at Semaphore 6: missing person. Report from parent of a missing 13-year-old female child. Officer responded to the parents location. Another officer responded to the parents vehicle and located the child. Mother and child reunited.

5:40 p.m. 1300 block of Pacific Avenue: dog/animal complaints. Report of a dog left in vehicle. Officer checked dog, which was fine. Vehicle was parked in the shade with the windows cracked.

6:13 p.m. Spruce and Second streets: motor vehicle accident. Officer assisted citizen with gathering insurance information for information exchange for minor vehicle crash in parking lot.

6:21 p.m. Beach: call for information. Vehicle left on beach with dog inside. Tide coming up.

10:16 p.m. Hemlock and Tyee streets: fireworks offense. Report of Chinese lantern being lit off on the beach, approximately nine blocks north of Tyee Street. Unable to locate.

11:27 p.m. 100 block of East Gower Street: camping within city limits. Subject warned for overnight camping.

11:29 p.m. Second Street at RV parking: camping within city limits.

11:35 p.m. Sewer ponds: camping within city limits.

Marketplace
