Rising temperatures, school breaks, parades, lemonade, beach trips, ice cream, watermelon, barbeques, bonfires, graduation, traveling, tourists and weddings   yes, summer is finally here!

There are many words that stir images of summertime in us. And Cannon Beachs art galleries are full of images and objects that evoke the memories and moods of summer.

Northwest by Northwest Gallery

At Northwest by Northwest Gallery, co-owner Joyce Lincoln is looking forward to summer and visiting with clients she has known for over a quarter of a century. These clients share a passion for collecting quality original works of original art, Lincoln said.

The arts are an integral part of the Cannon Beach experience for generations of visitors, she added.

In addition to running the gallery, Lincoln is organizing a jazz concert in the City Park to be held on the Fourth of July. Northwest by Northwest Gallery is on Spruce Street, across from the information center.

Dragonfire Gallery

Were excited at the prospect of summer bringing a season of outdoor living and the opportunity to bring art into the garden, said Lotte Greaver, of DragonFire Gallery.

New to DragonFire are freestanding large metal bells created with an Asian influence by Michael Theisen. The gallery is also introducing the art of Douglas Walker, who builds bird feeders and water features out of recycled musical instruments such as flutes, trumpets and so much more.

Another addition to the gallery is Elena Markova, a recent Portland resident by way of Russia, whose work is highly acclaimed in Moscow galleries. Her paintings reflect the spiritual, mystical and dreamlike qualities that evoke the gentle timelessness of summer.

DragonFire Gallery is in Ecola Square.

Bronze Coast Gallery

My fondest memories of summer typically include horses, said Bronze Coast Gallery owner Kim Barnett, who spent many of his earlier years on a ranch in Eastern Oregon. I spent many long, hot days in the saddle.

Artist David Crawford, from Halfway, Ore., recently delivered a new bronze horse sculpture with a working title, But for the Birds. Crawford has a studio and foundry on his property and makes each of his sculptures by hand.

Bronze Coast Gallery is downtown in the Landing.

Primary Elements Gallery

A new watercolor painting by Eric Christensen titled Salute to Summer, featuring a wine theme, will be available in three print sizes. The artist will do a hand-drawn remarque on the back at no additional charge.

Find Primary Elements on the second floor of Sandpiper Square.

Modern Villa Gallery

Modern Villa owner and artist David Marshall recently completed a painting that will be the featured artwork for Cannon Beachs Stormy Weather Arts Festival in November. Limited edition prints of the painting will be available for sale in time for the 50th anniversary of the Sandcastle Contest June 21.

Other summer-inspired artwork at the gallery includes Summer Breeze, by Mary McInnis, depicting a grove of trees twinkling in light, and Summer, by Joachim McMillan, a painting of a summer beach scene. Modern Villa Gallery is downtown in the Landing.

Cannon Beach Gallery

Summer in Cannon Beach would not be complete without the annual Summer Art Camp, from July 28 to Aug. 1 at the Cannon Beach Community Church, 132 E. Washington St. Many new classes will be offered this year, including painting, jewelry design, collage and felting, as well as some two-day workshops. Jeffrey Hull Gallery

Living on the edge is tough regardless of whom you are, said painter Jeffrey Hull, referring to the subject of his new watercolor painting titled By the Sea.

The personality of this spruce tree caught my eye as it continues to thrive on the bank just above the breakers while at the same time holding things together by its roots. The softly filtered sun nearing the horizon completed the story I wanted to tell, Hull said. His gallery is upstairs in Sandpiper Square.
