Sea Sai Salon, a staple of the Seaside community for seven years, moved four months ago to its new location on Avenue A. Its open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

What do you do?

Its a hair salon. Its a family salon. We do family haircuts, perms and cuts and colors and stuff. We sell some hair products. We specialize in colors. Mostly I do families from Seaside, and then we do get tourists who come in.

How did you get started doing this?

It was 20 years ago. I started in high school. A friend of mine, in junior high and high school, she wanted to take some vocation and career and stuff, and thats how we go into it about 22, 23 years ago in Whittier, Calif. I came down on vacation (to Seaside) and fell in love with it and then moved the family from Las Vegas here. (Ive been here) almost seven years now. I started (training) in California, its in a little town called Whittier. My school was called Mr. Dominics Beauty School.

Whats the volume of your business?

It could be hundreds. Its hard to determine. Pretty much, its seasonal here, especially in Seaside. We get busy in the summer and kind of close in the winter. (We could see) a hundred, a couple hundred a week. Its more seasonal, because we get tourists who have nothing to do and decide they want to get a haircut.

How does the economy effect your business?

People tend to get their hair cut and wait a while. Instead of every six weeks, theyll wait for every three months or every four months. The economy effects business a lot, because people can spend money tend to do more extra stuff, color perms, something different. It does drop off. People tend to color their hair at home now and do extra services at home.
