Nobody was injured in an East Bay house fire Thursday night that could be seen from Coos River Highway.

Coos Bay fire and medical personnel were dispatched to 63350 East Bay Road just after 8 p.m. after getting a report of a house on fire.

Coos Bay Fire Chief Mark Anderson said the home’s occupants got out of the house safely after their smoke alarm went off.

Anderson said the fire was mostly contained to the roof, and had spread from the chimney to the surrounding shake.

“It did significant damage to the roof,” he said. “About $15,000.”

According to the Coos County Assessor’s Office, the single-story home was built in 1970 and is owned by Weyerhaeuser.
