In the past week, the Seaside Police Department has received two complaints concerning a phone scam where the caller claims to be from the power company. The caller tells the person that they have exceeded their power usage and if they dont pay a certain amount of money now, their power will be shut off. Both receiving parties asked enough questions that alerted them that this was a scam so no money was lost. According to the power company, they do not make phone calls involving past due accounts or any problems with billing.

The Seaside Police Department warns all citizens and businesses to be wary of any phone calls asking for money of any kind unless you know who you are dealing with or have dealt with them in the past. Scams of these type will take many forms and claiming to be from the power company is just one of them.
If you receive a call of this type where money is being demanded, never provide banking or credit card information. If you are unsure, then call the company yourself to determine if the request for money or information is legitimate. Dont become a victim.
