In One Ear: Going ape

Have you noticed a woman pushing a cart full of boxes up to the post office in Warrenton or Seaside, and wondered what shes shipping? Its CALENDARS, new Warrenton resident, CORRIN LACOMBE (pictured), wrote.

Why? Well, these are not your traditional calendars full of dog, cat or scenic view pictures, she explained. No, these are PRIMATE CONNECTIONS calendars filled with pictures of some of the rarest and most elusive primates on the planet. They are pieces of photographic art and information …

Corrin is the founder of Primate Connections, which helps primate conservation organizations grow, and one of the ways she helps is by offering them the opportunity to be featured in the calendar. Twelve are chosen, then the organizations sell the calendars as a fundraiser.

In most cases, featured primates are critically endangered, on the verge of extinction, she emphasized. Some animals are so rare that the pictures seen in the calendar may be the only pictures of that species available on the planet.
