MANZANITA When he decided to launch his own carpet cleaning business, Coastal Clean Carpets, Bob La Torre knew he wouldnt do it the conventional way. Mine is a little different model, he said. People hear the words carpet cleaning and they think of two days of soggy carpets and steamed up windows. My cleaning only goes down to the bottom of the carpet fibers, so there is no excessive moisture.

The products La Torre uses to clean carpets are nontoxic, biodegradable and all organic. Even people who consider themselves chemically sensitive have no complaints about the process, he said.

La Torre taught in public schools for 24 years until 2009. In 2010, he and his wife moved to Manzanita, and became involved in several community activities.

His job ended, and as he worried about his next move financially, he came up with the idea of making a business of cleaning carpets thoroughly and professionally without using harsh chemicals, and Coastal Clean Carpets was born.
