Doors open at 6 p.m. and the gong sounds at 7 p.m. Renowned local chefs go head to head (or knife to knife) to see who can whip up the best food on the North Coast in the time allotted. Dementia Support

The group, for families and/or caregivers of dementia patients, will meet and provide an opportunity to share experiences with others in similar situations. All are welcome. Womens Self Defense

Seaside Jiu Jitsu Academy and FACES International will hold a free womens-only self-defense seminar. For women, and taught by women, this event will provide a safe and nurturing environment in which to gain and practice self-defense skills. In support of the FACES international mission, donations will be accepted to help victims and their children rescued from sex trafficking.

Cancer Support

5 to 7 p.m., Columbia Memorial Hospital Community Center, 2021 Marine Drive, Astoria, free. There is a monthly support group for adult cancer patients, their support team and family members, which focuses on sharing of stories, encouragement, inspiration, education, information and resources. Two groups will occur simultaneously so that cancer patients can meet together while their loved ones can share stories about their experiences supporting cancer patients. Each group will be led by licensed social workers Brigid Koeppen, LMSW, from Columbia Memorial Hospital, and Allison Whisenhunt, LCSW, from Providence Seaside Hospital.
