In June, the Lower Columbia Danish Society and the Madsen family surprised Jorgen and Berit Madsen with a traditional Danish 50th wedding anniversary celebration. The Madsens were alerted to the festivities by accordion and tuba music, as well as the singing voices of the assembled friends and family.

As tradition dictates, an arch covered with greenery and flowers, and sporting both a Danish and Norwegian flag, had been erected on their front lawn. Coffee and an array of Scandinavian treats were then served and more music was enjoyed.
