BAKER CITY The West scored 19 points in the first eight minutes of the game, and 14 points in the last five minutes on its way to a 33-23 win over the East in the annual East-West All-Star Shrine Football game in Baker City.

The annual summer contest, which showcases Oregons top high school seniors (1A to 4A) from the 2012 season, took place Saturday under sunny skies at Bulldog Stadium.

Dayton running back Forrest Garcia sparked the West squad with a big punt return and two touchdowns in the final 4:27, as the West rallied from a 23-19 deficit.

The East had taken a quick 7-0 lead, when Bakers Dane Bachman returned the opening kickoff 99 yards.

The West answered with three straight scores over the next seven minutes, including a 72-yard catch-and-run play from Santiam Christians Grant Schroeder to Devin Ceciliani of Madras.

Schroeder hit Zach Olson of Banks for a 13-yard score, then found Ceciliani from 50 yards out for a 19-14 halftime lead.

The East took advantage of more than 100 yards in penalties by the West team to grab a four-point lead late in the second half before the West rallied.

Clatsop Countys four representatives all made impact plays in the game.

Astorias Jeramy Poyer saw action at quarterback in the second quarter and played much of the game on the defensive side of the ball, while Fisherman teammate Levi Iverson started on the offensive line.

Knappas Kyle Kelly was in on several tackles and Seasides Lucas Clark recovered an onside kick to start the second half.
