Alexis Mather of Astoria has aced two of the preliminary sections of the Miss Oregon scholarship program.

Miss Clatsop County was successful in the swimsuit category then impressed judges in the talent portion, winning the top award in the category after singing the Queen of the Night aria from Mozarts The Magic Flute. The piece is considered one of the most difficult arias in the history of opera, in part because of its high notes.

The program continues Friday and Saturday at the Seaside Civic and Convention Center with the crowning, by Miss Oregon 2012 Nichole Mead, Saturday night.

Also participating is Miss North Coast, Julianna Carr, of Astoria, who performed a Western jazz dance in the talent portion.

Three in in teen contest

Three North Coast women are competing in the Miss Outstanding Teen contest, which happens simultaneously with Miss Oregon. They are Miss Teen Clatsop County Hannah Garhofer, Miss Teen North Coast Ashley Allen and Miss Teen Cascade Anna Kaim.
