The North Coast is in the news. Again. And not just once.
GEARHART got some love, and was No. 5 in the Tom Austin article, Americas best little beach towns, that ran on CNN TRAVEL June 13 (http://tinyurl.com/cnngearhart).
With its antiques shops and picturesque hiking trails, Gearhart … is an in-the-know haven for Portland hipsters like Paige Powell and Gus Van Sant, he wrote. In the evenings, people drive onto the hard-packed sand for wine and stargazing parties.
The June Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA) NEWSLETTER ran a story by Alton K. Marsh about ASTORIA, An official Coast Guard town: Hollywood loves Astoria, Oregon, with high praise for several local businesses, and highlighting numerous local attractions. More good publicity for our town! noted TONY KISCHNER of The Bridgewater Bistro.
PETER GREENBERG, known as The Travel Detective, is the travel editor for CBS News. His website published an article by travel journalist Lindsay Taub, who counted down the TOP 11 TOWNS ON THE WEST COAST on June 4.
Hooray for ASTORIA, which was at the top of the list (http://tinyurl.com/greenbergastoria). Aside from being quite taken by the local breweries, she noted Astoria has a charming downtown filled with lively cafes and boutiques, a fantastic market, stylish hotels and emerging culinary scene.
