Portland Approves Changes To Arts Tax
Published 5:00 pm Wednesday, April 3, 2013
Portland city commissioners approved changes Wednesday to an arts tax city voters approved last fall.
The council voted five-to-zero to exempt Portlanders who earn less than $1,000 from paying the $35-a-year tax.
The measure already allows households that are below the poverty line to request exemptions, and no one under 18 has to pay.
The arts tax is also the target of a lawsuit alleging it is the equivalent of an illegal head tax.
