CHOCOLATE

Ive mentioned our customers love of chocolate several times in our newsletter before. Three of the top ten flavors have a chocolate base – Chocolate Peanut Butter, Chocolate Almond, and, of course, Just Plain Chocolate. All three have slightly different levels of chocolate (Chocolate Almond being the darkest), which makes trying them all an interesting adventure, though most of you seem to stick with your favorites.

Another top ten flavor has chocolate as an inclusion item – the infamous Mint Chocolate Chip. Our #1 seller, Oreo Cookie ®, doesnt have a chocolate base, and technically, its not chocolate, but there is cocoa in the cookie, so that kinda counts. Other popular seasonal flavors like Swiss Mint, Aztec Chocolate, and Raspberry Chocolate Chip also feature chocolate. Ive even joked that we could probably have any flavor out there that had chocolate in it somewhere, like Broccoli and Chocolate, and it would sell pretty well (no, were NOT thinking about that combo. Get it out of your head). But, in reflection, one has to ask – what makes all of our chocolate ice creams so darn good?

Darn good chocolate.

Our chocolate chips come from Ghirardelli, the famous San Francisco candy-maker. We also use the same brand for our white chocolate chips. The cocoa for our chocolate-based ice creams is from Barry Callebaut. Who? Just the worlds leading manufacturer of high-quality cocoa and chocolate products representing about 6,000 employees in 30 countries. They have a comprehensive competency in the art of making chocolate from the cocoa bean to the finished chocolate product (yes, this is from their website – I cant write this well). Besides having a great product, we like them because of their responsibility towards society and the environment for a sustainable cocoa supply chain. After all, as they say on their site, Without cocoa, there can be no chocolate.

We also use their cocoa in making our homemade hot fudge, and in our chocolate waffle cones, which will return Memorial Day weekend. More Chocolate! Wheeeeeeeeeeeeee!

FUDGE IS BACK!

Spring Break means the return of our homemade fudge. This is an annual event. Every year, like clockwork. Sodid I remember to mention it in the March newsletter? Oh, noooooo. What is wrong with me? Wait, dont start on thatlets talk about the fudge.

Well have a variety of flavors on hand from now on (until Labor Day, which is the traditional end of our fudge season). Gosh, I hope I can remember THAT. Until I retrieve whats left of my mind, come on in and have some our homemade fudgy goodness, or take some fudge home with you to remember your time with us! Or to remind you of my forgetfulness!
