Jeanette Caroline Schmidt White Comisky died on Feb. 27, 2013 in Milwaukie.
She was born to Arthur and Clara Strom on April 4, 1921 in Portland. She grew up and lived in the Rose City Park neighborhood of Northeast Portland most of her life.
She outlived three husbands, Alfred Schmidt (1941 to 1963), Harry White (1965 to 1984) and Clifford Comisky (1991 to 2008).
In 1991, upon marrying long-time family friend, Cliff Comisky, Jeanette moved to his home in Cannon Beach. Cliff was municipal court judge at the time ( he served from 1985 to 1995).
In 2005, when Cliff’s health deteriorated, they moved to the Marquis in Canby. He died in 2008. In early 2009, Jeanette moved to Meadowlark Adult Care Home in Milwaukie, where she remained under loving care until passing away peacefully on Feb. 27.
She was always active. Before having children, she was a clerk and model for the Meier & Frank department store. Her family was always her priority, but as the children grew, she was able to work part time as a Welcome Wagon Hostess, helped in the office of the family auto repair business and in several local retail businesses. Later on, she became a medical receptionist for Dr. David Wiley.
Jeanette was beautiful, inside and out. She was quite social, accumulating friends wherever she went, retaining many lifelong friends from grade and high school. She was a life member of Friendship Rose Chapter 148, Order of Eastern Star, having been 1939 Honored Queen of Job’s Daughters. Jeanette made more good friends in Cannon Beach. The Library Club became a center of social activity. God and his church were always important, first at Rose City Park United Methodist, later at Trinity United Church of Christ and finally at Parkrose Community UCC.
Jeanette was known for her baking and sewing skills and gardening, and she always enjoyed playing cards. She is fondly remembered for faithfully sending greeting cards or notes to her many friends and relatives on their special days.
The beach and family cabin at Ocean Park, Wash. was particularly important throughout her life, having been a vacation place for six generations.
Her life was very good, but not easy. She cared for her parents in their end times and survived the loss of her husbands, requiring personal end-of-life care for Harry and Cliff. The stress brought on a long battle with Crohn’s disease. She extended her end-of-life care to 12 months under Providence Hospice, but was comfortable and relatively happy, thankful for everything done for her.
Jeanette is survived by her children, Ernest Schmidt (Nancy) and Beverly Wade; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Betty Bain and family; and nephew, Donald Strom.
