Miss Clatsop County Scholarship pageant set Feb. 2

SEASIDE Fifteen young women will compete for four titles Feb. 2, in the Miss Clatsop County Scholarship pageant at the Seaside Convention Center, 415 First Ave. General admission tickets are available for $10 from any contestant, the Seaside Chamber of Commerce or the Seaside Convention Center before the event, or at the door.
There are seven contestants vying to become Miss Clatsop County or Miss North Coast 2013. For the titles of Miss Clatsop Countys Outstanding Teen or Miss North Coasts Outstanding Teen 2013, there are eight competing.
A benefit dinner will be held the night before at 6 p.m. at the Loft at the Red Building, 20 Basin St. Tickets to the dinner are $50 if available and come with a $15 reserved ticket to the Saturday night show. Saturdays program will feature outgoing titleholders, Miss Clatsop County Sydney Dufka, Miss Clatsop Countys Outstanding Teen Giselle Pincetich, Miss North Coasts Outstanding Teen Hannah Bacon, and special guest Miss Oregon 2012 Nichole Mead.
The Miss Clatsop County Scholarship Pageant is the official preliminary competition of the Miss Oregon Scholarship Program and is part of the Miss America Organization, the worlds leading scholarship provider for women. The winners will go on to represent the county at the state pageant in July in Seaside. A random draw from 16 princesses by 2012 Miss Clatsop County Princess Cori Biamont will also take place.
The Miss America Organization is a nonprofit corporation established solely to provide participants with the opportunity to enhance their professional and education goals and to earn monetary awards.
The Miss Clatsop County Scholarship Program is run solely by volunteers. The program is actively seeking volunteers in Tillamook and Columbia counties.

Miss Clatsop County/Miss North Coast
Julieanna Carr, 18, is the daughter of Deanna Mullins and Jeff Carr and was born in Okinawa, Japan. She was raised by her mother since the age of 5. She is a senior at Astoria High School, enjoys dancing and competing in sports, and likes to choreograph her own dance routines. One of her favorite activities is performing on stage, trying to make life fun for everyone.
Carrs platform is Child Abuse Awareness. She hopes to raise awareness of the issue, increase abuse prevention and help create safety for the children of Clatsop County.
Carrs talent is Dance, Country Girl (Shake it for me).
Alexis Mather, 17, is the daughter of Gretchen and Mike Mather and a senior at Astoria High School. Some of her activities are wakeboarding, snowboarding, dirt bike riding and music. She enjoys singing and playing guitar and piano. In college, she plans to major in dentistry with a minor in music, with the dream of becoming a professional singer and composer.
Mathers platform is Be a Mentor Your Way, chosen because she enjoys helping others achieve their goals through music.
Mathers talent is Operatic Vocal, Queen of the Night from Mozarts The Magic Flute.
Andrea Maldonado, 17, is a senior at Seaside High School and the youngest of three. She is the daughter of Rosa Alvarez and Aristeo Maldonado, whom she credits in inspiring her with a strong work ethic and a never-give-up attitude.
Having been raised in a bicultural household, Maldonado speaks English, Spanish and French and wants to continue learning and perfecting language skills. She wishes to learn as many of the BRICK languages as possible, languages from emerging counties that she believes will play a major role in the future. After graduation she plans to continue her education, majoring in shoe design and French.
Maldonados talent is Mexican Folk Dance, El Son de la Negra, and her platform is TZONE.
Kaitlyn Carson, 18, was born in Longview, Wash., and raised in Clatskanie. She is the daughter of Kendra Howard and has two brothers.
A senior at Clatskanie High School, Carson is a member of the National Honor Society, Key Club, Young Life, varsity cheerleading, yearbook and student council. In addition to extracurricular activities, she is studying college English and advanced biology courses as a senior. She plans to attend the Art Institute of Portland, taking classes for a degree in apparel design. Her goal is to start a childrens clothing line and have her designs featured in clothing stores.
Carsons platform is Service Projects: Spark a Fire.
Her talent is Pop Vocal, Reflection.
Charish Ingram, 18, was born and raised in Tillamook, the youngest of four. She is a senior at Tillamook High School and will graduate this year. Her senior service learning project is reading to eight first-graders. She is the president of the Tillamook Future Farmers of America (FFA) Chapter after having served as the reporter the previous year; she has been in FFA for four years. She is an active 4-H dairy member and has been in 4-H for seven years.
Throughout school she has participated in many sports, including basketball, softball, track, volleyball, golf and bowling. She is a member of Youth Training Youth, whose members talk with children about healthy relationships. Last year she was the Vocational Arts Student of the year and this year is the December 2012 Tillamook Rotary Student of the month.
Ingram enjoys the farming way of life and dairy cows and likes to hunt and fish. One of her favorite pastimes is baking. This year she hopes to be crowned the Tillamook County Dairy Princess, which would be her third year running. After high school, Ingram plans to attend a trade school; though unsure of the actual activity, she is sure she wants to work with animals.
Ingrams talent is Dramatic Reading and her platform is the Tillamook FFA Chapter.
Alexandra Habecker, 18, was born in Portland and moved to Clatsop County when she was 3. Now in the process of completing her senior year at Seaside High School, she is ranked fourth in her class academically.
Habecker plays on the varsity volleyball and softball teams, performs in annual musical theater productions, sings in the Chamber and Jazz Choirs, participates in Key Club, and acts as secretary for her schools chapter of the National Honor Society. She maintains a part-time job as a barista at Seaside Coffee House and volunteers for local fundraisers such as the Parks and Recreations Haunted House, the Kiwanis spaghetti and pancake feeds, the Seaside Beach Run and the Elliot Hearing Memorial Concert. She also visits the Seaside Hospitals Extended Care Unit on weekdays to interact with dementia, stroke and Alzheimer patients. Habeckers goals include attending a university to double major in music and psychology, then move on to a graduate program for music therapy.
Habeckers talent is A Cappella Vocal, Parting Glass, and her platform is the Childrens Organ Transplant Association.
Lorraine Basch, 18, was born in Seattle and moved to Seaside when she was 7. She is the daughter of Richard and Roberta Basch and is the youngest of four children.
A senior at Seaside High School, she plans to apply to Pacific University and Oregon State University and hopes to major in German and minor in anthropology and political science. She spent her junior year in Germany, where she attended a German high school.
Her platform is The World Through Indian Eyes, in honor of her Native American heritage.
Baschs talent is Contemporary Dance, Awake My Soul.
Miss Clatsop County/Miss North Coast Outstanding Teen
Ashley Allen, 16, was born and raised in Tillamook, the oldest of four children. She is a junior at Tillamook High School and will graduate this year. Her favorite classes are chemistry, AP English and government. An avowed bookworm, she enjoys reading about history, biology and human anatomy, likes to learn new things and meet new people.
Allen will attend George Fox University in the fall as a biology major and plans to enter the pre-med program. After college she plans to continue on to medical school and eventually become a medical examiner. She will be the first member of her family to attend a four-year university.
Her platform is Habitat for Humanity, with which she has volunteered since November.
Allens talent is Dance, Diamonds.
Hayliehe Ariá Bell, 14, was born in Portland, the youngest of eight children, with six brothers and one sister.
She is active in her Greek Orthodox church, traveling to Portland to attend every Sunday.
A freshman at Seaside High School, Bells favorite subjects are English, art and music. She has recorded two songs that she wrote with Geoff Byrd and recorded a song with one of her brothers (Redwood Son). She dances and sings with a Greek dance group, Anatoli, which last year won a Choral Award in its Division at a competition in Anaheim, Calif. She likes to write, sing and dance and hopes to pursue these arts in college and beyond.
Bells talent is Vocal, Safe and Sound. Her platform is Teen Homelessness.
Anna Kaim, 14, daughter of Frank and Laura Kaim, is a freshman at Seaside High School and is on the dance team and in band. Born in Redmond, she started dancing at the age of 5, started competitions at age 7 and has danced three times at Disneyland. When not dancing or studying, she enjoys playing the flute, photography and shopping. Her college plans include majoring in sports medicine or physical therapy and continuing to study dance.
Finding out about a young dancer, who considered Kaim to be her role model, Kaim was inspired to begin raising awareness for the Andrea Rizzo Foundation Dreas Dream. This organization provides dance therapy to children with cancer and other special needs. She chose this as her platform because the young dancer who wanted to dance like Anna was able to replace her physical therapy with dance lessons.
Kaims talent is Tap Dance, Smooth Criminal.
Tiffany Stamp, 16, is a junior at Astoria High School and the daughter of Leah Stamp. When she is not working, she likes to hang out with friends and family, work out at the gym, listen to music and draw. In the fall she plays goalie and forward for her soccer team.
Stamps plans after graduation include a major in secondary education and medical school, where she hopes to become an anesthesiologist.
Her platform is Foster Care Awareness. Stamps family has welcomed more than 10 children and teens into their home and adopted her brother Daniel when he was 11. She hopes to raise more awareness for the cause.
Stamps talent is Vocal, Every Storm (Runs out of Rain).
Brianna Nofield, 16, is the daughter of Patrick and Lisa Nofield. Born and raised in Clatsop County, she enjoys being near the ocean and appreciates her support system of family and friends.
A junior at Seaside High School, her favorite hobbies are running, traveling and cheerleading. She has participated in extracurricular activities such as Awanas, Vacation Bible School, cheerleading camps, Cannon Beach Firemans Dinner and Adopt a Highway Program. After High School she plans to go to the University of California, Santa Barbara or Grand Canyon University in Arizona.
Nofields platform is Domestic Abuse Awareness, chosen in honor of people close to her who are or have been victims of abuse. Her goal is to raise awareness of the problem and help the Astoria Womens Resource Center and victims of abuse.
Nofields talent is Clarinet, Somewhere Over the Rainbow.
Hannah Garhofer, 16, is the daughter of Neal and Liza Garhofer. The Seaside High School sophomore was born in Hillsboro but has lived in Seaside since the age of 4. She participates in school activities as a member of the Key Club, class secretary, Leadership Program and as a teacher aide.
She likes dance, soccer, dirt bike riding and track. She began dancing at age 5 and has danced at Disneyland and competed in the Oregon State Talent Fair. She has been on the honor roll, was chosen as student of the month and has received the Presidents Education Award for Outstanding Academic Excellence.
Garhofers platform is celiac disease and the importance of proper nutrition along with exercise. She was diagnosed with the disease at age 9 and highlights following a gluten-free healthy lifestyle.
Her goal is to become an attorney.
Garhofers talent is Jazz-Acro Dance, Viva La Vida.
Kayla Worwood, 16, was born at the Mountain Home Air Force base in Idaho, the daughter of Laura and Bart Worwood. An Astoria High School junior, she moved to the Oregon Coast at age 8 and is involved in color guard, softball, Port City Jazz Choir and 4-H.
Worwoods platform is Keeping Music Programs In Schools. She has been involved with the musical programs of the Astoria schools since moving to the area, in band, choir and color guard.
Worwoods talent is Pop Vocal, Turning Tables.
Riley Sturgell, 16, is the daughter of Dennis Sturgell Jr., Tabatha Quashnick and, since the age of 9, Katie Sturgell. She has four younger brothers.
Among many other activities, her greatest interests are sports and being active. She plays on the varsity basketball and volleyball teams, likes hunting and fishing.
A junior at Warrenton High School, she has been a part of the honor roll since the seventh grade and is a member of the National Honor Society. After graduation in 2014, she plans to continue her education in California and study dental hygiene.
Sturgell has chosen Congenital Heart Defect Awareness as her platform. This was inspired by her brother Rayce, who had to undergo open heart surgery at just 2 weeks old.
Sturgells talent is Jazz Dance, Firework.
